Vodka, made from grapes? No grains, no potatoes? It’s true. DiVine Vodka is from a winery in Southwest Michigan. “Not only is it truly unique for premium vodka to be produced in the U.S.A. but more importantly, distilled from grapes instead of grains or potatoes.” according to their website. I had the opportunity to sample this vodka recently at the One of a Kind Show in Chicago where the Artist was exhibiting, and it was quite good. I’m not much of a “straight” vodka drinker, but it was smooth, and not harsh like other vodkas can be. And it made one hell of a cosmo! While they do sell this in retail stores in IL and MI, you can order it online for anyone not living in those two states.
A true gluten free vodka – made from grapes!

Thanks sooo much! I was just discussing this with the group, so now I have a drink to suggest! Rock On!!
How have you been? Many travels I see! I made a website for the group, PLEASE let me know what you think Steve! http://www.BoulderCountyCeliacs.com
Merry Christmas!!!!!
There are quite a few grape-based vodkas (as well as quite a few made in America). I’m not sure why they consider this so unique.
Other grape-based vodkas:
Ciroc
Roth
Burnett’s
There’s a plethora of small distilleries making the stuff as well. The EU recently allowed grape-based vodkas to continue to be called vodkas, so I expect we’ll see even more.
FYI, all vodkas are gluten-free unless they have non-GF flavorings added after the fact. Distilled alcohol is safe regardless of what it’s made from. There is also a new vodka made of soy, believe it or not!
Yo, Steve – Can I have your Cosmo recipe?
PlEASE? I’m a serious Cosmo fan…. and just got some Limoncello to add to my Cosmos… mmmm.. mmm… DELISH!
=)
Happy Holidays!
1 part Cointreau or Grand Marnier
2 parts vodka
2-3 parts cranberry juice (I am adamant about using 100% juice cranberry)
Lime
If it’s easier:
1 oz. Cointreau
2 oz. Vodka
2-3 oz. Cranberry Juice
Lime
Mix well in shaker. Pour out into pitcher. Garnish glasses with sugar rimmed if so desire. Cheers!
I have never replied on this, but have to admit I vist this site almost everyday. So its about time that I wrote something! Of course I decide to write when I saw the blog @ vodka. I thought the only safe GF vodka was the ones made from potato & grapes? I thought all the others (distilled from grains) were not safe? I stick with Chopin or Ciroc. Everywhere I look there is a different theory on what is safe & whats not. So I was just wondering! Thanks
Hi Julie – wow, the pressure you have me under for visiting my site daily! I hope it doesn’t disappoint! I would love to do more postings but often find myself not in the mood or have nothing to say! Thanks for visiting and writing, though.
As for vodkas, I am with you about the confusion over which is safe/isn’t safe. I’ve heard the same stories as well. From what I’ve read, so long as it’s distilled, and not flavored, we’re safe. It’s the flavorings that can harm us. But better safe then sorry and sticking with the potato or grape vodkas!
Thanks again for reading – here’s to a healthy 2008 for you and yours!
Hello.
I’ve recently ran across a NEW gluten free vodka, COORANBONG. It’s grape based (made from Shiraz & Cabernet grapes) from Australia. Is gluten free, distilled 10 times to make it very smooth.
Check it out! http://www.cooranbong.com
Is good over the rocks, but I like it best with white grape fruit juice.
It still bothers me that people can’t understand that any distilled product with grain as the main ingrediant is GLUTEN FREE. Distallation is the process of collecting water vapor from the base grain(or whatever else they choose) alcohol. It is impossible for gluten to take a vapor form and resalidify as clear liquid. Don’t be afraid of any high proof clear alcohol. Its like smelling fresh steaming bread, your not going to get sick from wafting the water vapor in your nose. The distallation process only removes and magnifies the alcohol content and water. Flavored spirits have things added to them after the distallation which may or may not contain gluten but, and clear flavorless alcohol is gluten free. This includes aged items like irish whiskey, scotch and rum.
Patrick –
Believe it or not – many people with gluten issues (including myself) react to grain based distilled alcohol – including vodka without additives.
