Two years ago, on April 13, was the day I was officially diagnosed with Celiac from my doctor (ok, it may have been April 14th, but we’ll call it the 13th). In honor of that significant day in my life, I am officially declaring each April 13th from here out “Gluten Freedom Day” (unless someone else can think of a better name!). You’ve got a while to think about this one but I want to get your ideas flowing! I am tasking each one of you to do something special that day for someone in your life who is gluten free. Maybe it’s sending them an e-card, letting them know how special they are. Perhaps it’s treating them to a coffee/tea (make sure the tea is gf – many flavored teas are NOT gf but contain barley or malt!). It could even be surprising them with the latest bestseller they’ve been wanting to read! It doesn’t have to be food related! There are plenty of ideas out there.
So put your thinking caps on, decide who your GF special person and what you can do for them! I can’t wait to see what ideas everyone has!

What a great idea! I helped a coworker make gluten-free cupcakes for one of her friends. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have been diagnosed with celiac’s for almost 2 years. I have days where I feel great but for the most part the ride has not been that easy. Last winter I somehow got giardia, was treated, then a month later was put in the hospital with a nasty bug named C.Diff. I was sick pretty much all of last spring. I was better over the summer until I was put back in the hospital in Sept with severe constipation. I am turning bright red just writing that. I am a nurse so I am used to a lot of “bowel” talk, but it is different when you are talking about yourself! Anyways, I had been using miralax and other laxatives, now nothing works except go lytely, which I now have a ongoing RX for. After ALOT of awful tests, my MD diagnosed me with colonic inertia, where the nerves & muscles in my colon are damaged, from what I dont know. The last resort is surgery to have some of my colon removed. I was wondering if anyone out there knows or have had a similar expierence that i have had? My GI MD has called a MD at Mayo & they agree that I should have part of my colon removed, I am not sure how much yet, have an appt with a surgeon next week. I am just desperate to know if anyone has suffered from this or know someone that has! I am 28 & have spent the last year & half with cramping, bloating, everything else you can thing of GI related. As for my celiac’s I think it is under control. Help! Thanks!
